Cell Phone Rental for Italy

Rent a cell phone for use in Italy. With a cell phone rental, you will also need to purchase an Italy SIM card. The prepaid italian SIM card in conjunction with a rented or purchased GSM phone is the most convenient solution for making cell phone calls, whether you are in the Italy or over in one of the 115 other countries your rental phone covers.

Regardless of where you will be, you will always retain the same phone number. Outgoing rates, with few exceptions, are approximately 50 cents per minute for domestic and international phone calls as outlined below. Incoming calls, with few exceptions, are the same.

Since these cellular phone cards are prepaid, there is no need for a contract, no minimums and no surprise credit card statements. For many people, purchasing a cellular phone while in Italy is a smarter option to renting.

Activating Your Service in Italy:

Go to Italy Be sure that battery on your phone is charged Insert the TIM SIM card into your GSM phone If it's a triband phone, make sure the network is set to 900/1800 Mhz Turn on your phone
Place a call in Italy

Once you make your first phone call your SIM card will also be activated to receive calls. The Italian SIM card phone number is in the package, so that you will be able to have your phone number before your departure. This phone number generally begins with the area code 333 or 339. To call the cell phone from the US, you would dial 011-39, then the phone number including the area code (ex. 011-39-333-5551212).

Adding Talk Time to your Italian SIM Card:

Additional minutes can be added in denominations of 5, 25 and 50 Euros Recharge time can be purchased by purchasing a RICARICard at Centro Tim or Telefonino store or a tobacco or magazine kiosk, or any other store that displays the "RICARICard" logo. The simplest way is to purchase the recharge card called the "RICARICard," scratch off the silver colored scratch off area and once the recharge code is exposed, call 4916 from your cellphone and enter:

2 for the main menu 1 to enter the recharge option
1 for the RICARICard recharge option

Then enter the 16 digit code that you previously exposed.

If you have any problem recharging your card, ask a local to help you - most Italians are very familiar with this recharge method!

Service Life:

Each recharge extends the validity of the SIM card for 12 months from the date of the recharge plus one month in which you may only receive calls, even with expired airtime. If you do not load your card within a 12 month period, the SIM card and accompanying phone number will expire.
