- Similar to that once found only in bulky, expensive conversion
systems is built into the compact, affordable AG-W1 so you can record and
play back tapes in any of the world's major TV systems.
- The conversion system of the AG-W1 utilizes an advanced field memory
to store conversion data, plus an advanced LSI circuit to control tape and
cylinder speed.
- When Converting a PAL or SECAM Tape to NTSC, for example, they work
like this:
- First, the Original Analog Video Signal is changed into a Digital
Signal, and then matched to the Scanning Lines, Field Frequency and Color
Signal of the Desired TV Broadcast System.
- Finally, the Newly Processed Signal is converted back into an Analog
Signal for Playback or Recording.
- This lets you play back videotapes that were recorded using any TV
Broadcast System, and Record or Convert Prerecorded videotapes for playback
in any Major TV Broadcast System.
- Play Back PAL, SECAM and NTSC Video Tapes:
- Just Slip a Prerecorded VHS or S-VHS Videotape into the AG-W1- It
will Automatically Detect the TV Broadcast System and Tape Speed used in
recording, set the Tape and Cylinder Speed to match it, and begin playback.
- You can select the TV Broadcast System to be output - NTSC, M-PAL
N-PAL, SECAM, and MESECAM - Using the Control Panel System Selector or the
World Map Geographic Display on the Front Panel.
- So you can watch the videotape on any monitor regardless of the
Broadcasting System for which it was designed: NTSC, PAL, or SECAM.
- For example, you can watch a PAL tape from England or Russia, using
the AG-W1 and an NTSC monitor in the U.S or Canada.
- S-VHS Quasi Playback:
- The AG-W1 is VHS but its S-VHS Quasi Playback function also lets you
play back SVHS videotapes in both NTSC and PAL systems. The versatile AG-W1
accepts VHS tapes in any format.
- You can watch tapes recorded in the S-VHS format, although the
resolution will only be that of VHS quality. S-VHS recording is not
possible.
- Standards Conversion into PAL, SECAM or NTSC:
- The AG-W1 lets you convert Prerecorded NTSC videotapes into PAL or
SECAM, PAL tapes into NTSC or SECAM, whatever conversion you require.
- Just Set the TV broadcast System Switch to match the System of the
Input Signal.
- To Record, Select the TV Broadcast System of the Country to which
you'll be sending the tape: NTSC, PAL, M-PAL, N-PAL, SECAM, MESECAM Using
the Control Panel System Selector or the World Map Geographical Display on
the Front Panel.
- For example, you can convert an NTSC tape that you recorded in the
U.S. into a SECAM tape for a friend in France.
- System Applications:
- The AG-W1 can also be used to Convert an Output Video Signal from
another VCR, Video Movie Camera, or Monitor into any desired TV Broadcast
System for Viewing.
- For example, you can combine the AG-W1 with a Dubbing System to
Convert an NTSC Videotape into a Dub that's playable in a different TV
Broadcast System.
Video broadcast signals vary from country to country. This makes it
difficult to view tapes from other countries on your VCR, as well as, send
video tapes to other countries. The Panasonic Ag-W1-P VHS deck allows you to
playback and convert any video broadcast signal such as SECAM, MESECAM,
N-PAL, PAL, M-PAL.to another.
For converting a NTSC (USA, Peru, Mexico, Canada, Japan) tape to PAL
(U.K., Spain, Germany, Italy, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia,
India), M-PAL (Brazil), N-PAL (U.K, West Germany, Spain, Argentina, Italy,
India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia), SECAM (France), or
MESECAM(Saudi Arabia, Egypt, East Germany, Greece, Russia).
Note: This deck is somewhat outdated in its list of countries. If this does
not work with the first broadcast system you try, experiment with other
signals.
1. Make sure you connect the video and audio cables correctly in the
back of the VCRs. Use RCA cables to go Video OUT from the your source deck
to Video IN on the conversion deck. This should be the same with audio.
2. Insert your original tape into either the SVHS deck in the rack or
the regular VHS Panasonic deck located with underneath the conversion deck.
Also insert a blank tape into the conversion deck.
3. To open the front panel of the conversion deck, gently pull down and
forward.
4. Set the edit switch to ON for dubbing.
5. Set the TV SYSTEM according to the INPUT signal. The Input Select
switch is located in the middle front of the panel. Most likely NTSC in this
instance, but if you choose PAL, select M-PAL, PAL, or N-PAL with the switch
to the direct left of the TV SYSTEMS switch.
6. You will see a large display section of all the different video
broadcast signals on the outside of the front panel. Press the country you
wish to make the tape for. The system should be lit up if it is selected
correctly.
7. Press the play button on your source deck and the record button on
the conversion deck.
8. Press the stop button to stop recording.
9. To view your new tape, change your RCA cables in the back of the
conversion deck to OUT Audio and video to into VMON 2. This monitor has the
capabilities to read different broadcast signals, such as, NTSC, PAL, SECAM,
etc.
10. Select the new broadcast signal for playback on the back of the
conversion deck. There are two switches, look to see that you have the right
column selected before choosing the broadcast signal.
For creating a NTSC tape from a PAL, SECAM etc. just reverse the cables.
Video OUT from the conversion deck to Video IN into the SVHS or VHS decks.
Then follow steps 4-10.
